Stewarding Mission for the Future: Readiness, Collaboration and New Possibilities beyond grants

27/07/2026

Third USG–UISG Workshop on the Sustainability of Mission
29 September 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (CEST)
In person: Regina Mundi Hall, UISG Headquarters, Rome and online

How can Religious Congregations prepare today to face the economic, organizational, and institutional challenges of tomorrow? What tools can help ensure the continuity of their mission while remaining faithful to the charism that inspires it?

These are the key questions at the heart of the workshop "Stewarding Mission for the Future: Readiness, Collaboration and New Possibilities beyond grants" jointly organized by the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and the Union of Superiors General (USG). The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at Regina Mundi Hall, UISG Headquarters in Rome.

The initiative builds on the journey begun with the meetings held on 9 December 2025 and 10 April 2026, during which a shared conviction emerged with increasing clarity: the sustainability of mission is not simply a matter of fundraising. Rather, it encompasses the quality of leadership, governance, organizational capacity, collaboration among Congregations, responsible stewardship of resources, and the long-term continuity of apostolic ministries.

Building on this process, the workshop will explore new trends emerging within both the ecclesial and philanthropic sectors. Topics will include impact investing, blended finance, zero-interest loans, and possible strategies for enhancing the management of assets and financial resources in support of mission.

The purpose of the workshop is not to present ready-made solutions or models to be replicated. Instead, it seeks to offer criteria for discernment and practical tools for reflection, helping participants identify the conditions, competencies, organizational systems, and forms of accompaniment needed to assess and make responsible use of these opportunities in a way that is consistent with the mission and the charism of each Institute.

The workshop is particularly intended for:

  • Superiors General

  • General Treasurers

  • Bursars

  • Administrative and Financial Officers

  • Members of General Councils

  • Directors and staff of Mission and Development Offices

  • Religious and lay collaborators involved in apostolic planning and the responsible stewardship of resources

The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (CEST) and will be conducted in Italian and English, with simultaneous interpretation. Participation is available both in person and online. Places for in-person attendance are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 2 participants for Congregation.
