Appointment of Father Carles Gil i Saguer as the New Superior General of the Piarist Fathers

The General Congregation of the Order of the Pious Schools has officially announced the appointment of Father Carles Gil i Saguer, Sch.P. as the new Superior General of the Order, effective June 16, 2025, in accordance with the norms established by the Order's proper law.
Father Carles Gil, a Piarist religious of Catalan origin, has served in recent years as General Assistant of the Order. His appointment to the leadership of the Calasanctian Family comes at a significant moment, following over fifteen years of dedicated and visionary service by Father Pedro Aguado Cuesta, Sch.P., who led the Order with pastoral depth and evangelical zeal.
On March 29, 2025, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, appointed Father Pedro Aguado Cuesta as Bishop of the Dioceses of Huesca and Jaca, in Spain. His episcopal ordination took place on June 14, 2025, in the Cathedral of Huesca, and the following day he officially took possession of the Diocese of Jaca. The newly ordained bishop expressed his desire to continue serving the Church with a synodal spirit, in communion with the local Churches and with a particular focus on youth and the poor.
During his term as Superior General, Father Pedro Aguado also rendered valuable service within the USG, serving as President of the Joint USG-UISG Education Commission, making a significant contribution to strengthening the educational mission of consecrated life at the international level.
The USG (Union of Superiors General) expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Father Pedro Aguado for his long journey of service within male religious life and for his tireless commitment to the evangelizing education of children and young people, the core of the Piarist mission. At the same time, it warmly welcomes the appointment of Father Carles Gil and assures him of the prayerful support and fraternal closeness of all male religious in his new mission as leader of the Order founded by Saint Joseph Calasanz.
