Benaguasil, Valencia, May 14, 2025 – Father José Ángel Lostado Fernández, new Superior General of the Capuchin Tertiary Religious (Amigonian Fathers).

Father José Ángel Lostado Fernández has been elected as the new Superior General of the Congregation of the Capuchin Tertiary Religious of Our Lady of Sorrows (Amigonians) for the 2025–2031 term.
The election took place during the XXIII General Chapter, held at the Shrine of Our Lady of Montiel in Benaguasil (Valencia), from April 27 to May 11, under the theme: "Pilgrims of hope, walking together toward the new sanctuaries."
Father Lostado succeeds Father Frank Gerardo Pérez Alvarado, who served in the role from 2019 to 2025.

Father José Ángel Lostado Fernández was born in Fustiñana (Navarra) on January 15, 1964. He made his first religious profession on September 15, 1983, in Burgos, and his perpetual profession on September 15, 1988, in Godella (Valencia). He was ordained a priest on October 1, 1995, in Pamplona.

He holds a degree in Theology and is a social educator specialized in educational intervention. Father Lostado has an extensive background in congregational leadership, having served as Provincial Superior of the Luis Amigó Province for two consecutive terms (2010–2016), and as General Director of the Amigó Foundation. Until his election, he was carrying out his apostolic work at the Padre Luis Amigó School in Pamplona, promoting the formation of Amigonian laypeople and coordinating courses on Amigonian identity and charism.

The XXIII General Chapter has also elected the new General Council that will accompany Father Lostado in the leadership mission for the coming term:

  • Fr. Jesús María Echechiquía Pérez, Vicar General

  • Fr. Henry Alonso González, 2nd Councilor

  • Fr. Javier López Díaz, 3rd Councilor

  • Br. Víctor H. Molina Arango, 4th Councilor

The Congregation trusts that this new team will guide, in a spirit of fraternity and in fidelity to the charismatic legacy of Venerable Luis Amigó, the challenges that the Amigonian Family will face in its evangelizing and educational mission, especially in service of vulnerable youth and needy communities around the world.
