Trauma can extend its effects long after an experience of adversity passed, creating adaptation mechanisms with negative consequences on long-term individual and social well-being. Moreover, complex trauma is a continuous experience of adversity caused by systemic marginalization, social structures and relationships that do not fulfill basic human needs. Trauma-informed approach increases awareness about the widespread effects of trauma and its effects, resisting re-traumatization through a systemic lens based on knowledge of recovery and resilience processes (SAMHSA, 2014). Trauma-informed approaches are especially important in caring and educational professions. The quality of accompaniment such as listening, awareness of emotional responses and responding to the vulnerabilities of others in a caring and compassionate manner is crucial for their recovery, well-being, and growth.
