FR. Desiderio García Martínez Elected New Prior General of the Carmelite Order

From September 9 to 26, 2025, the General Chapter of the Carmelite Order was held, electing the new leadership and assigning the main offices for the next six years.
Fr. Desiderio García Martínez, O.Carm has been elected Prior General of the Order.
Fr. Desiderio has a background of academic and pastoral formation, including studies in Ecclesiastical Studies, Biblical Theology, and Hebrew Philology.
Throughout his religious life, he has held numerous positions of responsibility within the Order.
With his election, Fr. Desiderio will lead the Carmelite Order at the international level, promoting spiritual life, the formation of religious members, and pastoral engagement in the various communities where the Order operates.
