The 59th General Chapter of the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm (Camillian Religious) elected its 61st Superior General on May 11, 2022: Father Pedro Tramontin delegate of the Camillian Delegation in the United States.

The election took place on the first ballot and by a very large majority, a sign of the unity of the Chapter members called to choose the new leader of the Order.

He was born on 3rd July 1967 in Salto Veloso - in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. He made his solemn profession in 1992 and was ordained a priest on 28 September 1996. He studied at the Gregorian University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Theology and a master's degree in Spirituality. From 1997 to 2007, he was novice master in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2008, he served as vocation promoter of the Camillian Province of Brazil. In 2009 he was transferred to Milwaukee (WI) USA and has been the delegate since 2013.

Immediately after his election Fr. Tramontin addressed these words to the Chapter members:

"I thank you for the trust you have placed in me. Paraphrasing a person more important than me, I too ask you: Pray for me! God's will be done.

When I realised that I might be elected Superior General, my heart began to pound. The only consolation I found were the words that the Crucified One said to our Founder St Camillus: "Pusillanime, do not be afraid: this is my work, not yours!"

On the following days, 12 and 13 May 2022, the 56 Chapter members from all over the world also elected

VICAR GENERAL Fr. Gianfranco Lunardon (Italian nationality)

CONSULTANT GENERAL Fr. Médard Aboue (Beninese Nationality)

CONSULTANT GENERAL Fr. Baby Ellickal (Indian Nationality)

CONSULTANT GENERAL Fr. Paul Kabore (Burkinabé nationality)
