Discerning Leadership: Online Formation for a Synodal Church – February 2027

The Discerning Leadership Program, the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and the Union of Superiors General (USG) are jointly offering an online formation programme for those exercising a ministry of service and responsibility in a synodal Church.
Taking place in February 2027, the programme will strengthen participants' personal and spiritual leadership, helping them to guide their teams and congregations through discernment, collaboration and shared responsibility.
Programme and approach
The formation combines expert input, personal reflection and exchanges with participants from diverse backgrounds. Topics include personal and spiritual formation, leading teams, communication and conflict resolution, organisational culture, discernment in common, intercultural capacity, personality types and leading change.
Who can participate?
The programme welcomes Superiors General, General Councillors, Provincial Councils, priests and diocesan groups, leaders of Catholic organisations, and members nominated by their General Council to share the formation within their congregation.
For a congregation to participate, its Superior General must also take part. The participation of at least two or three council members from each congregation is encouraged. The programme can accommodate up to 250 participants.
Dates and times
The programme comprises 24 online sessions over 12 days:
- 3, 4 and 5 February 2027
- 10, 11 and 12 February 2027
- 17, 18 and 19 February 2027
- 24, 25 and 26 February 2027
Sessions take place from 2.00 to 6.00 pm CET (Rome time). A reliable internet connection is essential.
Languages
The programme will be delivered in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish. Other languages may be available depending on demand.
Participation fees
Fees are adapted by region to support equitable access:
- Africa, Latin America and Asia: €100 per person, with reductions available for groups.
- Europe and North America: €500 / US$600 per person.
