Several Catholic networks, including the JPIC Commission of UISG and USG, are jointly organizing an important webinar on 9 June to help prepare for the celebration of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, which takes place at the beginning of September, and to highlight the new Mass for the Care of Creation recently introduced by Pope Leo XIV.

The online event will bring together Church leaders and liturgical experts who will explore the meaning and significance of these two important gifts offered to the universal Church by the most recent Popes.

On the one hand, the "when": the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation is celebrated each year on 1 September. Established by Pope Francis in 2015, it is inspired by a tradition already present in the Orthodox Churches, which commemorate God's creation of the world on that day. In the letter establishing this observance, Pope Francis expressed the hope that it would be "celebrated in a proper way by the whole People of God: priests, men and women religious, and the lay faithful." This initiative also gave rise to the Season of Creation (from 1 September to 4 October), which extends and deepens the celebration through prayer, reflection, and concrete action.

On the other hand, the "how": Pope Leo XIV has enriched the celebration of this observance by promulgating the new Mass for the Care of Creation. For the first time in many years, the Church now has a liturgical formulary specifically dedicated to the care of creation, with biblical readings and prayers that help Christian communities celebrate the gift of creation and their responsibility to protect it.

The Eucharistic celebration of this special day offers a privileged opportunity to praise God the Creator, rediscover the beauty and sacredness of creation, and renew our commitment to care for it with responsibility and hope, at a time marked by an increasingly serious ecological crisis.

We warmly invite you to participate in the webinar and to share this initiative within your networks and communities, so that this important observance may be celebrated with ever greater awareness and participation.
