The Congregation of St. Basil of Canada Elects a New Superior General

The 2026 General Chapter of the Congregation of St. Basil (CSB) elected Fr. John B. Huber, CSB, as the 26th Superior General of the Congregation on 13 July 2026. The news was made public by the Congregation on 16 July 2026.

Fr. John Huber succeeds Fr. Kevin J. Storey, CSB, who concluded his service after two terms leading the Congregation. Prior to his election, Fr. Huber served as Vicar General and was extensively involved in the ministry of education, one of the distinctive areas of the Basilian apostolate.

The members of the new General Council were also elected:

  • Vicar General: Fr. Maurice Restivo, CSB
  • Second Councillor: Fr. René Constanza, CSB
  • Third Councillor: Fr. John O'Brien, CSB
  • Fourth Councillor: Fr. Juan Pablo González, CSB

Founded in France in 1822, the Congregation of St. Basil is currently present in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Colombia and France. The Basilians carry out their ministry primarily in the fields of Catholic education, formation, evangelization and pastoral ministry, inspired by the charism of St. Basil the Great.

The Union of Superiors General extends its warmest wishes to Fr. John B. Huber, CSB, as he begins the ministry of leadership entrusted to him, and assures him of its prayers that he may guide the Congregation with wisdom, an evangelical spirit and fidelity to the charism of the Institute. At the same time, the USG wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Fr. Kevin J. Storey, CSB, for his generous service to the Congregation during his years in office.
