Fr. David J. Thiroux elected Superior General of the Society of St. Edmund 

During the General Chapter held in June 2026, the Society of Saint Edmund (Edmundites) elected Fr. David J. Theroux, S.S.E. as its new Superior General, succeeding Fr. David Cray, S.S.E. His term of office will last four years, with the possibility of renewal for a second four-year term.

Ordained a priest in 1974, Fr. Theroux has been a member of the Society of Saint Edmund for more than fifty years.

Founded in 1843 in France by Fr. Jean-Baptiste Muard, the Society of Saint Edmund is a religious congregation of pontifical right dedicated to evangelization, education, and service to the poor. Today, the Edmundites continue their apostolate primarily in Vermont, Alabama, and Connecticut, carrying forward a significant tradition of social and pastoral commitment. Since 2022, the Congregation has entered a phase of "completion," no longer accepting new candidates while continuing to carry out its mission and ministries fully.

The Union of Superiors General extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to Fr. David J. Theroux, S.S.E., as he takes up the responsibility of leadership entrusted to him, assuring him of its prayerful support that he may guide the Society of Saint Edmund with wisdom and fidelity to the Gospel and to the charism of its founder. At the same time, the USG wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Fr. David Cray, S.S.E., for his generous service during his years as Superior General.
