International Webinar on Safeguarding and Pastoral Care
Online Event: 8 June 2026
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (Rome Time)

"Promoting safe environments means safeguarding dignity, listening, and responsibility in the life of the Church".

The UISG-USG Safeguarding Commission is promoting an international training webinar dedicated to the theme of safeguarding in the context of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The webinar will be led by Fr. Barry O'Sullivan and will offer an in-depth reflection on the challenges that arise when the sacrament of confession intersects with situations of abuse, in light of pastoral experience, sacramental theology, and the most recent ecclesial reflections on safeguarding.

Particular attention will be given to listening to victims and survivors, pastoral responsibility, and the role of the confessor, exploring the delicate balance between the sacramental seal and the Church's commitment to promoting safe environments.

The webinar will also provide a space for reflection and sharing on the canonical, pastoral, and formation-related implications for those engaged in ministries of accompaniment, discernment, and pastoral care.

Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect together on a particularly sensitive and central issue in the Church's ongoing journey of responsibility, prevention, and renewal.

The event will take place online on 8 June 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Rome time).
Languages: French, English, Italian, and Spanish.

The webinar is open to everyone.
